Francis is a Partner who started with the firm in 1979 as a law clerk. Francis specializes in the defense of workers’ compensation cases, and also handles employment, subrogation, third-party, general liability, criminal, real estate and litigation throughout the State of Illinois. Francis has been a Cook County Circuit Court Arbitrator for fifteen years. In 1994, he became licensed to practice law before the U.S. Supreme Court. Francis is the former president of the Workers’ Compensation Lawyers Association for the state of Illinois. He has repeatedly received highest possible ratings of “AV” under the Martindale Hubell Lawyer Rating System. Additionally, Francis has been profiled in the Chicago Magazine as a “Super Lawyer.”


Francis was born and raised in Chicago and since 1980 has been an adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 979 in Chicago, and is currently the Scout Master.  Francis is very active in coaching youth baseball, basketball, soccer and wrestling. He is the son of the late Honorable Francis J. O’Byrne, Sr., Federal Court Administrative Law Judge, and currently resides in Villa Park, Illinois with his wife, Leslie, and  children, Francis III and Charlie. Francis attended law school at John Marshall as well as the University of Oxford, England.
