DANIEL LEAHY, a native Chicagoan, graduated from
Fenwick High School in Oak Park in 1963. After graduation, he attended
St. Leo College in Florida and then spent his junior year studying
at Loyola University's Rome Center. He returned to Chicago to graduate
from Loyola University.
After
graduating, Dan entered DePaul University College of Law, graduating
with a Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree in June 1971.
During
his senior year in Law School, he worked as a clerk in the States
Attorneys Office of Cook County and after admission to the Illinois
Bar and Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois
continued as an Assistant States Attorney in Cook County, representing
the county in tax, probate and workers' compensation litigation.
After
leaving the States Attorneys Office he joined the law offices of
James M. Patek, counsel for the Insurance Company of North America.
While in this position, he specialized in defense of liability and
workers' compensation claims.
In
December of 1973, he joined the law firm of Roddy &
Power, specializing in defense of workers' compensation
litigation. On July 1, 1978, he was admitted to the partnership
and the firm was incorporated under the name of Roddy, Power
& Leahy, Ltd.
Mr.
Leahy served as a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois State
Bar Association, and Workers' Compensation Lawyers Association.
He served on the Board of Trustees of that association from 1973
through 1982, as Secretary from 1982 through 1984, Vice President
in 1985 and President of the Workers' Compensation Lawyers Association
in 1986 and continued as a member of the Board of Managers for that
organization through 1995. He has lectured on workers’ compensation
for the Illinois Self Insureds Association, Chicago Bar Association
and Illinois State Bar Association. Dan continues to serve the firm in an Of Counsel capacity.
